Play Chairs

Our modular seating systems are adjustable to provide your child with appropriate therapeutic support so that they can actively participate with family and friends. All Play Chair seats come equipped with securely attached seat belts. Many components may be added to the Play Chair to meet the specific needs of the individual child. When your child grows and skills improve, the chair may be modified for use in a full range of play and learning applications.

Schools, therapists and clinic customers are pleased the Able Generation Play Chair modules may be quickly adjusted and adapted by the easy insertion of the various components. Our chairs are also compact and easy to transport. The Play Chair and Play Table may also be tilted to varying angles and heights. This enables the chairs to serve a wide range of children with varying therapeutic needs. Our "E" slotted legs permit additional adjustment without the time and frustration of disassembly. Able Generation Chairs are available in small and regular sizes.

The Play chair consists of sides, back and seat. As with all our products, our chairs are manufactured with high quality birch plywood which provides the comfort and warm appearance of natural finished wood. The chair features a moveable seat which can may be angled and adjusted to any height within the specified range. A fully adjustable 1" nylon seat belt and with a quick-release buckle is securely attached to all seat on all our chairs. These adjustments help control muscle tone at the hips or pelvis, and provide a stable postural base. With the seat lowered all the way so that the child's feet rest on upon the floor, it provides excellent support for floor play.

Basic Chair

The Basic Chair consists of sides, back and seat. The moveable seat can be angled and adjusted to any height within the specified range. These adjustments help control muscle tone at the hips or pelvis, and provide a stable postural base.

Module A

For children with adequate head control and early sitting skills. This module includes The Basic Chair with adjustable legs, Flat Insert Back and Pommel. The Flat Insert Back provides pelvic support and, as with all insert backs, permits seat depth adjustments in 1" increments. The Adjustable Legs provide added adjustability by permitting the basic chair unit to be raised in increments of 1" and tilted with respect to the floor. This permits a child seated in the Play Chair to sit at the Play Table. The adjustable pommel helps maintain the pelvis in an upright position, with relaxed leg positioning, therapeutically critical for children with muscle tone problems.

Module B

Provides extra trunk support for the child with emerging sitting skills or the child requiring additional trunk support, we recommend the use of the Winged Insert Back and side leg pads in addition to the Adjustable Legs and Pommel. The Winged Insert Back is depth adjustable with added back support and centering for the child. When the chair seat is adjusted up and down, the back is designed to move with it, providing full back support regardless of seat position. The winged inserts of the back encourage shoulders and arms forward to assist the child with functional usage of arms and hands--abduction with external rotation. The Side Leg Pads (1" or 2" thick) are designed to help control "frogging" of the child's legs, They are easily inserted between the sides of the chair and the child's legs., a set of two of either size are included.

Module C

For children requiring full head and trunk support. We recommend using this module which includes the Therapeutic Insert Back with harness and head pads. Also included are the Adjustable Legs, Pommel and Side Leg Pads. (Please specify size.) We also recommend the optional Footrest with this configuration. The Therapeutic Insert Back provides additional support and centering for the head. Padded wedges (Head Pads) attach to the upper part of the insert back wings with hook and loop tape at levels which are best for your child. The combination of the Therapeutic Insert Back and the Adjustable Legs allow the chair to be tilted posteriorly in space for greater support. We also recommend the optional Footrest with this configuration which provides the child with foot support when the chair is elevated beyond a height where the child's feet can rest comfortably on the floor.
